High quality product and a commitment to outstanding service. That’s the winning formula that Hayden Diamond Bit Industries Ltd. credits for their success. And it’s a formula that applies equally to local health care, says Hira (Eric) Gaunder, the company’s owner and a Richmond resident. “To survive and thrive as a business, you have to offer quality and service and that requires ongoing investment. When our machinery gets old, we don’t keep repairing it. We buy new equipment to improve productivity, efficiency and quality.”
“It’s the same at Richmond Hospital. Over time, things wear out and you need to replace them. It’s important to have the best medical equipment and facilities so doctors and nurses can offer the best possible treatment.”
Founded in 2001 with six employees, Richmond-based Hayden Diamond Bit Industries is at the forefront of a unique industry niche to supply state-of-the-art precision drill bit technology to the mining industry around the globe. With 105 employees spanning three shifts around the clock, Hayden supplies customers to earth’s far away corners in Australia, South America, Asia and Africa.
As this year’s Presenting Sponsor for Richmond Hospital Foundation’s 18th Starlight Gala, Gaunder says local health care is a top priority. “Most of our employees live in Richmond and having care close to home is very important to us. At times, our employees have needed to go to the Emergency Department for care, and when they did, it was excellent. We are very pleased to see the impact we have on care with our support.”
Gaunder, whose four children were all born at Richmond Hospital, says he’s personally grateful for the orthopaedic surgical care he received recently for an injured shoulder. “I never expected that I would be able to raise my hand above my head again. Dr. Fay Leung and the team at Richmond Hospital did incredible work. Both the procedure and the physical therapy afterwards were fantastic.”
Gaunder says all community leaders and businesses need to champion Richmond Hospital as a dramatically increasing and aging population places pressure on Richmond Hospital’s ability to provide acute care services. “We know this growth will continue in the future. We live and work in this city and we all want a place nearby that can provide care. We all need to invest. It’s our interests to do so.
“My vision for the future for the people of Richmond is to have the best quality local health care that meets the needs of our growing community. I hope we all make it happen here in Richmond.”
